Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
